Women play a vital role in maintaining arts and culture in Memphis and around the world. On Friday, March 6th and Saturday. March 7th the Dixon Gallery and Gardens will host the first Women in the Arts event, organized by the Dixon Gallery and Gardens and Theatre Memphis. This two-day event will bring together a host of women for performances, demonstrations, and dialogues ranging from personal stories to championing gender equity. Women in the Arts celebrates the creativity and tenacity of makers, painters, actresses, dancers, musicians, women working in the arts, and creatives from across the community. Visitors can connect with these women and understand the challenges and opportunities that women in the arts encounter in the mid-south.
This two-day event will include panels and demos, performances and chats with women in all experience levels within the creative sector. Artists participating on the panel include Kong Wee Pang, Cecilia Wingate, Julie Niekrasz, Lucero Soto, and Tamar Love. Executive Directors from local arts organizations will have a separate panel discussion around leadership in the arts. Participants include Debbie Litch: Theatre Memphis, Dorimar Ferrwe: Cazateatro, Whitney Hardy: 3rd Space, Katie Smythe: New Ballet Ensemble, Marcia Kaufmann: Iris Orchestra, and Karen Golightly: Paint Memphis.
Enjoy performances by Las Palomas, Woman’s Water by Homegrown LLC, and Hot Foot Honeys, artist chats with Elizabeth Alley, Julia Hinson, Grace Byeitima, and many more.
