Ah, summer. That time of year when kids get to be kids, and finally get some down time from the pressures of the school year. Kids have lots of time to fill, and parents scramble to make the most of it. Wouldn’t it be nice to have one location where your child can pursue a variety of fun interests all summer long?
Your child’s imagination does not take a vacation, and fortunately, neither do we! The Center for Excellence (CFE) at Hutchison offers an array of camps and workshops so you don’t have to drive all around town to make sure your child stays engaged with a healthy dose of fun and variety.
“We literally have something for girls and boys of all ages. Your child can learn to play quidditch, improve their math skills, or design a fairy garden,” says Brianna Lofton, co-director of the CFE. “We understand that kids have different interests and different needs. Math camp may not sound enticing to your child, but we make it possible to do math one week and Harry Potter the next. The variety and depth of programming are the secrets to our success,” says Lofton.
CFE counts on community professionals from across the Mid-South as well as faculty from Hutchison School to lead the one- and two-week, full-day or half-day clinics and workshops in academics, leadership, arts, sports, and more. This year’s CFE offerings include coding a robot, creating a Superhero play, and an entrepreneurship class. And of course, crowd-pleasers like Fancy Nancy and Harry Potter are returning as well.
“We’re not your typical summer camp. We are able to take a deep dive into specific hobbies or interests like woodworking, spending an entire week on one activity, yet we have all the trappings of a fun summer camp experience,” says Amanda Killen, co-director of the CFE. Hutchison’s secluded 52-acres offer plenty of space for athletic skills-building clinics and fun activities that revolve around the lake and the farm, like their Math and Mud camp. Yes, there is a lot of math to be learned on a farm.
