Grind City Kicks honors 9-year-old Kameron Johnson killed in bus crash

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Kameron Johnson lived 9 years, but some hope to keep his memory alive by honoring him with a pair of his favorites: shoes.

Kameron was killed in a bus crash on December 3, on the way back to Memphis from a Dallas football tournament with the Orange Mound Youth Association. 45 others were injured in the accident.

Grind City Kicks is a local sneaker company that rewards youth who have shown excellence in the community with a free pair of shoes.

The company selected Kameron as this month’s honoree and presented his mother with a pair of air Jordan Retro 11 kicks enclosed in a display case.

“I didn’t know Kam personally but I know many people who did and they told me about how great of a child he was,” said Grind City Kicks entrepreneur Chima Onwuka. “I personally asked my team if this month we could not only highlight who Kam was but also give a shoe to his grieving mother for remembrance as well.”
